India has one of the oldest Christian churches in the world, traditionally founded by Thomas, one of Jesus’ original disciples. Despite 2000 years of church history in that country, Christianity remains a small enough minority amoung the Hindu population that India is still considered a least-reached country. Compounding an already difficult situation, there seems to be a strong political and social campaign to return the country to its Hindu identity. It has been many years since India welcomed traditional missionaries or even outside funds for national Christian ministries, yet there are many doors through which trained development professionals may enter.

Home to 2,152 people groups, over 350 of whom are unreached Muslim groups.
Currently, India only has seven missionaries per million people.
India has the second largest population in the world, with over 1.2 billion people.
